Resumption tips for Headteachers and Junior School Principals by Ch Okedusi A. B.

  PREPARATION TOWARDS RESUMPTION OF THE 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION

To: All Headteachers and Junior Secondary School  Principals


The 2026/2027 Academic Session for schools below the tertiary level in Ondo State is scheduled to commence on Monday, 14th September 2026.

As we approach the commencement of the new academic session, all Headteachers and Principals are directed to ensure that their schools are adequately prepared for a smooth, orderly and effective resumption.

The last week of the holiday should be utilised by school management and staff for thorough preparations, particularly in the following areas:

School Environment:

Ensure that the entire school compound, classrooms, offices, laboratories, libraries, toilets and other facilities are clean, orderly, safe and conducive for teaching and learning.

Statutory Records:

All statutory and academic records should be made available, properly updated and ready for use from the first day of resumption. These should include the Admission Register, Attendance Registers, School Diary, Scheme of Work, Lesson Notes and other relevant school records.

Academic Preparation:

Teachers should be fully prepared for the new session by reviewing the curriculum, preparing their schemes of work and lesson notes, and putting in place appropriate instructional materials to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

Staff Readiness:

School management should ensure that all members of staff understand their responsibilities and are ready to resume fully and punctually. Heads of schools are expected to provide the necessary leadership and supervision to ensure effective academic take-off.

Learners' Welfare and Safety:

Appropriate arrangements should be made to receive learners into a clean, safe and welcoming environment. Any identified safety concerns within the school premises should be addressed before resumption.

Parents and Guardians:

Parents and guardians are encouraged to prepare their wards adequately by providing the necessary school materials, uniforms, books and other requirements for effective participation in academic activities from the beginning of the session.

Headteachers and Principals are reminded that effective preparation is critical to achieving a successful academic session. The quality of preparation undertaken before resumption will significantly influence the smooth commencement of teaching and learning.

All school administrators are therefore expected to take this directive seriously and ensure that their respective schools are fully ready for inspection and academic activities by Monday, 14th September 2026.

Let us collectively demonstrate the commitment, professionalism and leadership required to provide our learners with a safe, conducive and quality learning environment.
