Training program for Headteachers and Principals on Quality Assurance Procedures and Practices

ODSG TRAINS HEADTEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS ON QUALITY ASSURANCE PRACTICES

In line with the OUR EASE Agenda of the present administration, the Ondo State Government has organized a four-day training programme on Quality Assurance Practices for Headteachers and Junior Secondary School Principals across the state.

The capacity-building workshop, held in Akure, the state capital, was organized by the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abuja.

While declaring the ceremony open, the Chairman of ODSUBEB, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, described the training as both timely and strategic, noting that it is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of quality assurance mechanisms and strengthen their ability to deliver excellence in self-monitoring and evaluation within the school system.

According to him, “The concept of quality assurance is central to the effective management of education. It ensures that standards are not only met but sustained, that our schools remain centres of excellence, and that our learners are equipped with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

Hon. Olabimtan further highlighted some of the remarkable achievements of the present administration in the education sector, including the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers to fill critical vacancies in public primary and secondary schools, as well as the promotion of primary school teachers to Grade Level 16, ensuring parity with their counterparts in other sectors.

He also noted that the timely payment of counterpart funds by the state government has led to massive improvements in school infrastructure and the enhancement of teachers’ welfare across the state.

While appreciating the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering commitment to transforming the education sector, Hon. Olabimtan urged participants to take full advantage of the training and actively engage with the facilitators.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, ODSUBEB, Mr. Adewale Omomowo, explained that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement. He added that the participants would be exposed to modern approaches in school management, self-evaluation, and quality assurance.

Also speaking, the Coordinator, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abuja, Mrs. Olanike Adams, emphasized the importance of effective school management as a panacea for sustainable educational development in the state.

In his Vote of Thanks, the Director in charge of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Chief Okedusi A. Ben, appreciated Almighty God for granting good weather and for His divine favour in making the training proposal a reality.

He expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his love and passion for education, which is evident in the prompt payment of counterpart funds that made the workshop possible.

Chief Okedusi also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Chairman of ODSUBEB, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, whose visionary and exemplary leadership style has brought the Board to the path of excellence and accelerated progress.

He equally acknowledged the support and cooperation of Full-Time Members I and II, Princess Ademoyegun Brown and Dr. Olanrewaju respectively, as well as the steadfast commitment of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Omomowo Julius Adewale.

Appreciation was also extended to the facilitators, ably led by Mrs. Olanike Adams, for their insightful presentations and professional delivery, and to all SUBEB Directors and members of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department for their teamwork and active participation.

Chief Okedusi concluded by expressing optimism that the knowledge gained from the capacity-building training would translate into improved quality assurance practices and enhanced service delivery in schools across the state.
